We collect what we need to make your videos and pay directors, and nothing more. Your character photos are used only to render your own recasts. We don’t sell your data or run ads.

01What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account: your email address. If you sign in with Google, also your name and profile picture.
  • Profile: handle, name, bio and the picture you upload.
  • Characters: the photos and videos you upload, plus each character’s name, description, look, traits, and your confirmation that you have permission to use the face.
  • Scenes: the script behind each scene: titles, hooks, shots, roles and sound choices.
  • Messages you send through the Contact page.

Information created when you use Kinoscuro

  • Recasts: the prompt we build, the finished video, its status, and any error.
  • Activity: who you follow, your credit history, and your royalty earnings.
  • Payments: your Stripe customer ID, plan and subscription status. Stripe handles your card; we never see full card numbers.
  • Card check for free credits: Stripe’s fingerprint for the card (a code that identifies the card without revealing its number), its brand, type (for example debit or prepaid), country and security-code check result, and the decision we made. The card is detached from your account right after the check.
  • Welcome answers: why you joined, how you heard about us and whether you post short videos, if you answer.
  • First visit: the page you first landed on, the site that sent you, and any campaign or referral tags in the link.
  • Technical: server logs, including IP address, browser and timestamps, used for security and debugging.

02How we use it

  • To run Kinoscuro: sign you in, store your characters and scenes, and generate the videos you ask for.
  • To take payments, keep your credit balance, and calculate royalty credits.
  • To send emails. Sign-in links and receipts always go out. Activity emails, like “your recast is ready”, can be turned off in Settings.
  • To keep the platform safe: limiting free credits to one per person, preventing abuse and fraud, reviewing reports, and enforcing the Terms.
  • To understand which channels bring people to Kinoscuro, in aggregate.
  • To fix problems and improve the product.

03Your character photos

Photos of faces are sensitive, so we handle them narrowly:

  • We use them only to make the videos you request with that character. Other people can’t see or use your characters.
  • For each render, we send the photos to our video model provider through private links that expire after a few hours.
  • We don’t use them to identify people, we don’t sell them, and we don’t use them to train our own AI models.
  • Delete a photo or character in My cast and we delete it from our storage.

04What’s public

  • Your handle, name, bio, picture and follower count.
  • Your published scenes: video, title, hook, shot layout and length. The written shots are visible only to you and our curators.

05Who processes your data

We don’t sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We use these providers to run Kinoscuro, and each one processes data only for that purpose:

  • Google Cloud (United States): hosting, database, file storage and logs.
  • BytePlus ModelArk (Seedance video model, Asia-Pacific): receives prompts and character photos to generate videos.
  • Stripe: payments and subscriptions.
  • Resend: sends our emails.
  • Google Sign-In: if you choose to sign in with Google.
  • Cloudflare: DNS for our domain.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect people from harm.

06How long we keep it

  • Account, characters, scenes and recasts: until you delete them or close your account.
  • Video links from the model provider expire within 24 hours; we keep our own copy so you can download it.
  • Payment, credit and royalty records: as long as tax and accounting law requires, even after your account is closed.
  • Server logs: up to 30 days.
  • When you close your account, we delete or anonymize your data within 30 days, except records we must keep by law.

07Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR in the EU and UK and the CCPA in California, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, and to object to or restrict some processing.

  • Edit your profile in Edit profile, and your email preferences in Settings.
  • For a copy of your data or to delete your account, send a privacy request. We reply within 30 days.
  • You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

08Cookies

We use only first-party cookies that the site needs:

  • a sign-in session cookie;
  • your theme choice (black or light);
  • whether you hid the “How it works” box on Discover;
  • a random device identifier, used only to stop one device claiming free credits on many accounts;
  • where you first arrived from (landing page, referring site and campaign tags), kept for 90 days.

We don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Stripe sets its own cookies on its checkout pages.

09Security and transfers

Files are stored privately and served through short-lived signed links, and connections are encrypted. Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States and Asia-Pacific. Where the law requires it, these transfers are covered by safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

10Children

Kinoscuro is for adults only. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 18, and photos of minors are not allowed. If you think a child’s data is on Kinoscuro, tell us and we’ll remove it.

11Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we’ll tell you by email or in the app before the change takes effect.
